The restoration of the Brandon Town Hall is now well under way, with over $400,000 raised in grants and donations, large and small, and some major projects completed--including the construction of elegant marble steps to the main entrance (donated by Omya, Inc.), and the renovation of the lobby area to provide convenient access to the main hall from the ground floor with a new staircase and wheelchair-accessible lift. The next phase in the restoration will be the installation of a fire-suppression system in the main hall, which will allow us to obtain a general occupancy permit and re-open the building for regular use from May through October. We expect the cost of our new fire-suppression system to be about $72,000, and we are now raising money to pay for it. Our goal is to raise the money and install the system before May 2008. After the fire-suppression system is installed, we plan to upgrade the bathrooms, install a new heating and air-conditioning system, and make practical and cosmetic improvements to the interior of the building so that it will be adaptable to a wide variety of uses--from theatrical productions to film screenings to public meetings--all year round. NOTE: the order of project phases may change (for example, the installation of a fire-suppression system, now Phase 2, is described in the plan as Phase 5) due to code or grant requirements or for other reasons, and cost estimates may also change due to inflationary and market forces.
