GALLERY IN·THE·FIELD & THE FRIENDS OF THE BRANDON TOWN HALL ANNOUNCE
A BENEFIT for the BRANDON TOWN HALL
Featuring THE KATIE BULL GROUP PROJECT
Concert September 20, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Brandon, VT—Gallery in·the·Field and The Friends of the Brandon Town Hall are pleased to present a scintillating evening of jazz with The Katie Bull Group Project to benefit the historic Brandon Town Hall. Bull, a dynamic jazz vocalist, will perform songs from her 2007 release, The Story, So Far, along with new originals. Proceeds from this special event will go toward the restoration of Brandon Town Hall, built in 1861 in downtown Brandon, VT.
Known for her insightful approach to standards as well as an ear for the avant-garde, Bull's live performances forge an intimate connection to her audience. Informed by her work in experimental theater, she successfully creates a dialogue with both her band and the listener. "Bull gets it right…'it' being something wholly undefined and unconventional," writes Suzanne Vorge in All About Jazz.
Bull, a native New Yorker, has been playing regular gigs around NYC since the tender age of 15. She has released three albums to critical success and stands as one of the brightest lights on the downtown jazz scene. Her most recent CD, The Story, So Far was chosen as one the top jazz improv recordings of 2007. As Rick Anderson notes in All Music Guide, Bull is a "prodigiously talented singer…[she] sings in a warm, smooth voice that will remind some of Sarah Vaughan and others, interestingly, of the young Chet Baker…" Her current group includes pianist Michael Jefry Stevens, Hilliard Greene, bass, and George Schuller on drums.
Concert: Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 7pm.
Tickets $12 in advance (at Carr's Florist & Briggs Carriage Bookstore) or $15 at the door.
Location: Brandon Town Hall, 1 Conant Square, Brandon, VT 05733
